The Importance of Having Quality Listing Photos

Listing PhotosThe adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” refers to the idea that you can convey a complex idea with a single still image. For instance, someone could spend an hour telling you about a house over the phone, using descriptive words. But if you see a quality photo of that house, you’ll have a much better idea of what it’s like.

In the times we’re living in, most people are “on the Internet,” and the new way to shop for houses for sale is online. Therefore, the pictures you use to show off your house for sale matter– a lot. They are essentially the first impression of your house that people–from near or far–will get, as they look online for houses for sale in the geographical area they’d like to live.

The world wide web is truly amazing. It means someone in Australia, for instance, could “see” a house for sale in Edmonton, Alberta. Quality photos matter because people want to see what a house looks like quickly– they want to be able to go through about 5 to 10 pictures of things like the front exterior, the kitchen, the living room, the bedroom(s), the washroom(s), the basement, and the yard. These pictures tell a short story of what a house looks like, so people can imagine whether or not they could see themselves living there.

Quality photos are ones that are sharp, in focus, in color, and offer an overall perspective of a room or area. It makes sense to try and show the entire room in one picture, rather than up close pics of items in a room. You’re trying to show a room, not an object, after all. And pictures of your house and yard at its best–on a sunny summer day for example–can help entice potential buyers to want to come see the place in person.
