New Edmonton Arena and Area Growth

The city of Edmonton is home to some world-class entertainment. From the downtown Arts District to the many annual celebrations that give the city its nickname, “The Festival City,” there’s plenty to do in Edmonton, and more attractions are arriving every day.

Hockey fans will be glad to know that the Edmonton City Council recently approved a large deal needed to bridge a budget gap preventing the completion of a new downtown arena. The arena will house the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, concerts and many other events, seating about 20,000 people. The city will match a $15 million funding agreement that is also being made by Oiler’s owner Daryl Katz. Construction on the building will begin in the spring of 2014.

As we’ve profiled in this blog before, Edmonton is a growing Canadian city with a very strong economy. Public investment like this in private buildings means that the city will continue to grow. As the capital of Alberta, the strength of this city typically translates into overall growth for the entire region.

With a thriving downtown section geared towards both arts and entertainment, Edmonton is a great place to live in or near with your family. Alexis Homes would be glad to show you our available properties. We have plenty of places located just a short drive away from the Arts District, the upcoming Oilers arena or plenty of other entertainment hotspots.
