“World Class” Architecture Coming to Edmonton

Edmonton home owners might have some new entertainment to look forward to in the downtown area – a possible new sports arena for a plethora of events.

360 Architecture, builders of such noteworthy stadiums as the New Meadowlands Stadium in New York City, are almost set to add a bit of new life to downtown Edmonton. Of course, whether they build or not will be put to a vote on July 4, this year. The hope is to have an accessible, activity restoring center of culture in downtown.

According to an Edmonton Journal article, Councilor Ben Henderson has reservations on this project, suggesting that the arena will only bring life to the downtown while events, such as sports or concerts, are actually going on. At all other times, the area would serve as a vacant, lifeless (albeit beautiful) building.

I disagree.

A huge arena like this would encourage other businesses to come and grow, in hopes of attracting the crowds on games nights. It should serve as a catalyst to restore life in Edmonton. And, even if it only brought life during sporting events and concerts, that’s still more life than was there before. It may even encourage more moves to Edmonton, so this could have a very positive effect on the Edmonton housing market.
