What to do in Edmonton this Weekend

Edmonton It’s that time of year when there are all sorts of Halloween-related and autumnal activities to do around Edmonton.

Kids love Edmonton’s Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm. Why not take the kids to it this weekend to pick out pumpkins from the pumpkin patch? There’s a 7-acre Mega Maze on-site, as well as hayrides around the farm. See scarecrows, pet animals, try pumpkin bowling, and more at this festive place 25 Km north of Edmonton at 56311 Lily Lake Road in Bon Accord. Click here for more information.

Want to visit a scary haunted house in downtown Edmonton? The Deadmonton House is best for those ages 12 and up because it’s truly terrifying. Located in the Old Paramount Theatre, it’s at 10233 Jasper Avenue in the city. See http://deadmontonhouse.com/ for details.

Through October 23 you can catch a variety of horror films showing at DEDfest. Screen some scary flicks at the Metro Cinema at the Garneau, 8712 109 St. NW. Visit http://www.dedfest.com/ for info.

Boo at the Zoo takes place Oct. 23 from 11 – 4, at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Kids will especially like exploring the extinct animal graveyard. If you can’t make it to the zoo that day, it’s still a fun place to visit any time of the year; see here for info.

If you’re not into Halloween, consider attending the Edmonton Fall Home Show, held Oct. 21 – 23 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. Check here for details. Also at the EXPO Centre this weekend is the Edmonton Ski & Snowboard Show, Oct. 22 and 23. Not too long now and winter will be here, with opportunities to ski and snowboard around Alberta.
