Edmonton is a great and vibrant city, offering residents ample opportunities to get out in the community and enjoy what the city has to offer. There is an abundance of family-friendly activities as well, with great events for all ages.

For younger children, the Edmonton Valley Zoo is a great option. Home to more than 350 different animals from around the world, the zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. The zoo also hosts a variety of special events and educational programs year-round, giving children an opportunity for creative expression and up-close experiences with the zoo’s diverse animal population.

Slightly older children have plenty of options as well. For science-inclined kids, try the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton. With more than a dozen regular and featured exhibits, an IMAX theatre and special themed events, there’s something to pique the interests of everyone in the family. The whole family can also take a close look at the night sky with the World of Science’s planetarium or observatory, which offers stargazing hours Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Looking for something more thrilling? Check out the Whitemud Amusement Park! Offering bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages and more, plus a kiddie park for younger visitors, your whole family is sure to have a fantastic play day at Whitemud.

For older children or anyone with a shopping itch, stop by West Edmonton Mall – the largest mall in North America. Home to more than 800 stores and 100-plus eateries, the mall is billed as “the most comprehensive retail, hospitality and entertainment complex on Earth.” There’s fun for all ages as well, as the mall is home to numerous entertainment venues, including World Waterpark’s waterslides and wave pools, Galaxyland indoor amusement park – the largest of its kind in the world! – and the Ice Palace’s skating opportunities.

The city of Edmonton also maintains lists of family friendly youth programs as part of Child Friendly Edmonton. Outlining even more of the many places to visit, programs to participate in and other fun options to get out and do, it’s a great resource for residents to find fun and exciting activities for the whole family.

Edmonton is a world-class city with world-class entertainment for the whole family. When considering a move, don’t ask if there will be anything for you to do with your kids, but ask how you’ll find time to get to it all!
